This term’s Visiting Speaker is the Oxford-based author and environmental activist Mark Lynas. Mark’s 2007 book “Six Degrees: Our Future on a Hotter Planet” won the Royal Society’s Science Book of the Year Award and his most recent book “The God Species: How the Planet Can Survive the Age of Humans” has also been widely acclaimed. At the 2013 Oxford Farming Conference, Mark described his journey from an anti-GM campaigner to a supporter of the view that genetically modified crops may help to feed the world. His change of view resulted from his scrutiny of the scientific evidence and his realisation that the evidence had been misrepresented by some anti-GM campaigners.
